Philosophy of difficulty rating
DON'T THINK. JUST RATE IT.
There are so many ways to think about the difficulty of a game. It may be one reason why nobody has taken on the task of organizing difficulty ratings, as this website intends to attempt.
Was the difficulty spiky or consistent? Was the platforming hard, or was it more cerebral? Maybe the game wasn't necessarily hard, but rather the controls were simply frustrating. Was the main game easy but the extras were hard to achieve? Was the whole game easy but the developers put one impossible achievement in the game?
These are all valid questions that can't easily be summarized in a single score from 1 to 10... but I want you to try.
Just rate it.
Rate your own experience with the game. Go with your gut. Don't worry about what difficulty you selected, or the little nuances. Use the first number out of 10 that pops into your head.
The ratings will average out. Over time, we'll analyze the data and work out the kinks if the data is not useful. The current goal is to keep it simple. So with that in mind, don't overthink it:
